Why ‘Always’?
The title of Kang Haneul’s 2026 fan meeting in Japan is “ALWAYS Season 3.”
This is already the third time this title has been used.
Some fans may have wondered:
“Why is the title ALWAYS in English?”
In Korean, there is the word 늘 (neul), which means “always” or “all the time.”
Interestingly, the last syllable of 하늘 (Haneul, “sky”) is also 늘.
On top of that, Kang Haneul is sometimes affectionately called 마늘 (maneul, garlic) by fans. This nickname comes from the sound of his birth name 김하늘 (Kim Haneul)—sometimes playfully pronounced as 기마늘—and has been around since before his debut. It’s a lighthearted nickname based on the word 마늘, which means garlic.
The name “ALWAYS” was chosen together by Kang Haneul and his team, and he is said to really like it.
The official reason behind the title “ALWAYS” has never been explained.
But if you imagine that it combines the meaning of 늘 (“always”) with the 늘 in 하늘, it’s hard not to smile if you know a little Korean.
Why are there two words for “always” (neul and hangsang)?!
늘 = “always,” “usually,” “as always”
늘 is an adverb that means:
- always
- usually
- as usual
- all the time
It’s very common in everyday conversation and has a warm, natural feeling, suggesting that something continues naturally or remains unchanged.
Examples
늘 고마워.
Thanks, as always.
늘 건강하세요.
Please stay healthy, always.
늘 응원하고 있어요.
I’m always cheering for you.
These expressions sound especially warm and natural when fans speak to their favorite actor.
Even Kang Haneul himself answered in an interview with Cosmopolitan,
“저는 늘 즐겁고 재미있게 살고 싶어요”
（I always want to live a fun and joyful life.）
Rather than forcing himself to “just be natural,” it’s clear that simply “enjoying life” is his unpretentious personal motto. His habit of cherishing everyday, simple joys directly feeds into the effortless charm that makes Kang Haneul who he is.
What’s the Difference Between 늘 and 항상?
Korean also has another word for “always”:
항상 (hangsang).
The two words are similar, but their nuances are slightly different.

Always wear your seatbelt.
This implies: every time you ride in a car.
Another example:
항상 같은 시간에 일어나요.
I always wake up at the same time.
Here, the idea is that this happens consistently every day.
Of course, people also commonly say:
항상 감사합니다.
Thank you, as always.
However, compared with 늘 고마워, it sounds a little more polite and formal.
Why “늘” Feels Perfect Here
If we think about the title of the fan meeting, 늘 seems to fit better than 항상.
It brings to mind feelings like:
- “Always by your side.”
- “Supporting you, just as always.”
- “The Haneul we know and love.”
It has a softer, more affectionate feeling.
And the fact that 늘 also happens to be the final syllable of 하늘 makes the title even more charming.
