Where These Words Appeared: Haneul, How Much Slang Did You Fit Into One Message? 😂
On September 24, 2026, this handwritten message from Kang Haneul appeared on Instagram.
In his effortlessly grown-up handwriting, he wrote:
신뢰 넘치고, 간지나고, 기가 막히고, 스타일 넘치고, 호흡 좋고, 센스 있고, 알잘딱하고, 야호-하고, 야르-하고, 짱이고, 쩔고, 지대뽕빨인 팀이라고 들었습니다.
Very roughly, it means:
“I heard you’re a team that’s trustworthy, cool, absolutely brilliant, stylish, perfectly in sync, sharp, great at just getting things done, fun, ‘yeaahh!’-level exciting, awesome, insane, and ridiculously cool.”
That is a lot of praise packed into one sentence.
But what makes this message especially fun is that Haneul is not simply throwing together a bunch of “current youth slang.”
He mixes:
ordinary Korean,
internet slang from a few years ago,
a meme that is trending again in 2026,
and even retro slang with a distinctly 2000s feel.
In other words, it is basically a greatest-hits compilation of Korean ways to say “cool,” “awesome,” and “ridiculously good.”
And once you understand not only what the words mean, but also what era they sound like they belong to, the sentence gets much funnier.
A Quick Guide to the Expressions

📱 Newer and Currently Trending Slang
알잘딱하다
알잘딱 comes from the longer expression:
알아서 잘 딱 깔끔하고 센스 있게
often shortened first to 알잘딱깔센, and then shortened again to 알잘딱.lol
The basic idea is:
“Know what needs to be done without being told, and do it neatly and sensibly.”
Natural English equivalents would be something like:
“just know what to do”
“handle it properly without needing instructions”
“get it done and get it right”
There is not really one perfect English slang equivalent.
In terms of vibe, though, it is close to expressions such as:
“You know the drill.”
“Just make it work.”
“Nail it.”
It is not brand-new slang in 2026. It came out of internet culture several years ago and has since become fairly established, so I would call it newer internet slang rather than cutting-edge slang.
야르-하다
야르〜!
is an excited exclamation that is currently circulating as a meme again in 2026.
It is sometimes explained as having a connection to the Japanese やる / yaru, although the way it functions in Korean today is more like an excited sound than a literal borrowing with the same meaning.
The feeling is something like:
“Yes!”
“Let’s gooo!”
“Woo!”
“Hell yeah!”
Of those, “Let’s gooo!” probably comes closest to the current internet-meme energy.
Normally, you would simply shout:
야르!
But here Haneul writes:
야르-하고
as though 야르 were a normal descriptive verb that could sit neatly alongside all the other expressions.
That deliberately forced grammar is part of the joke.
The same thing happens with:
야호-하고
So the sentence becomes this wonderfully absurd parade of praise:
trustworthy, stylish, sharp, competent, yahoo-ish, yarrr-ish, awesome, insane…
⚱️ Retro Slang
간지나다
간지나다 means:
cool, stylish, slick, good-looking, having a certain vibe
It is commonly explained as deriving from the Japanese word 感じ / kanji, meaning “feel” or “impression.”
For example:
간지 난다.
→ That looks cool.
→ That’s got style.
The word is still perfectly understandable today.
But it does not sound like a shiny new Gen Z or Gen Alpha term.
Think of an English word like “cool” or, depending on context, “killer.”
Neither is dead. People still use them.
But you would not introduce them as the hottest new slang of 2026.
That is roughly the position 간지나다 occupies.
짱이다
짱이다 means:
awesome, the best, amazing
For example:
너 진짜 짱이야.
→ You’re seriously awesome.
→ You’re the best.
This is one of the true veterans of Korean slang.
It is still widely understood, and people absolutely still say it.
But it no longer feels remotely “new.”
If you wanted an English comparison based more on age than exact meaning, imagine the difference between hearing a current expression like:
“That ate.”
and hearing:
“That’s awesome.”
“Awesome” is still alive and well. It just has decades of history behind it.
That is the sort of vibe 짱 has now.
쩔다
쩔다 / 쩔어 means something like:
insane, sick, ridiculously good, seriously impressive
For example:
와, 진짜 쩐다.
→ Wow, that’s insane.
→ That’s seriously sick.
It can express admiration, shock, or sheer intensity.
Unlike some genuinely dead slang, 쩔다 is still very usable.
But it has been around for a long time, especially since the 2000s, so it belongs more to the category of established slang than fresh youth slang.
In English, “sick” is actually a pretty good comparison.
It can still sound completely natural, but nobody would describe it as a brand-new expression.
지대뽕빨이다
And now we come to the most chaotic one:
지대뽕빨
The first part, 지대, was used with the sense of:
really / seriously / super / extremely
and has a very strong 2000s-slang flavor.
Then we have 뽕빨, another expression with distinctly retro slang energy.
Historically, 뽕빨 was associated with gambling slang and the idea of having everything taken or used up.
From that broader slang family came expressions such as:
뽕을 뽑다
meaning:
to get your money’s worth
to make full use of something
to squeeze every last bit of value or enjoyment out of something
Over time, 뽕빨 also developed a more exaggerated, punchy slang feel.
So in this message, trying to translate 지대뽕빨 literally misses the point.
The important thing is the sheer over-the-top energy.
Something like:
“ridiculously awesome”
“absolutely epic”
works better.
But the era matters too.
It is not simply “current internet slang.”
It has the feeling of deliberately digging an old-school expression out of storage and using it because its datedness makes it funnier.
If I had to recreate that effect in English—not the exact meaning, but the time-warped slang effect—it would be like someone in 2026 enthusiastically stacking slightly older expressions together:
“totally awesome, seriously cool, absolutely epic.”
Nothing there is incomprehensible.
It is the combination and the slightly throwback flavor that makes it funny.
So:
지대뽕빨인 팀
might be translated freely as:
“an insanely awesome team”
or even:
“one seriously, ridiculously cool team.”
The joke is that Haneul is deliberately reaching back into the slang archive.
The Real Joke Is the Mix of Generations
The sentence is funniest when you stop thinking of it as simply “a lot of trendy Korean words.”
Haneul is essentially mixing expressions from different generations and throwing them all into one giant compliment.
It is less:
“Look at me using all the latest slang.”
and more:
“Let me use every possible version of ‘awesome’ I can think of, regardless of decade.”
Which is exactly why the sentence has so much personality.
Clementine’s Note 🍊
Of all the handwritten messages from Haneul that have surfaced over the years, I cannot remember seeing many that feel quite this openly playful.
We are used to his warm, thoughtful, and polite messages to fans and people he works with.
But this one is unusually full of:
“awesome!”
“insane!”
“let’s gooo!”
energy.
And somehow, that makes the relationship behind the message feel especially warm.
It gives the impression that he was comfortable enough with the team to joke around, pile on silly expressions, and write something that sounds much more like playful banter than a formal message.
Which, frankly, makes me both a little jealous and very happy for them.
Haneul has said before that he is not especially up to date on newly coined words.
Haneul has said before that he’s not particularly up to date on the latest slang, which makes this little handwritten note all the more memorable.
